Grand Designs: New Zealand – Josefine Watterson airs tonight on ABC TV.
Josefine Watterson, a Swedish architect, is committed to eco-friendly design and practises.
She had never before experienced such icy temperatures in a home until she moved to New Zealand. Especially considering she had previously resided in places where she could wear shorts indoors despite the fact that the temperature outside was negative twenty degrees.
That’s why Josephine, who lives in Auckland and works full-time as an architect, plans to construct a passive house—a cosy, environmentally friendly abode for her husband Will and their three kids. If she succeeds, she’ll earn the highly sought-after title of “Certified Passive House Designer.”
They were eager to leave Auckland when they found an affordable plot of land close to Will’s relatives in Featherston. Josefine is eager to demonstrate the aesthetic potential of eco-friendly dwellings, so she has designed a double-height, raked ceiling for their home.
Huge difficulties lie ahead for Will and Josefine. Not only are they taking care of a young family, but they are also relocating, working full-time jobs, and dealing with the stresses of managing and working on a home construction project. In addition, a blower test must be passed before the home can be considered a passive house.
Will and Josefine are both realistic enough to know that following their dream could cost them everything.
