Michael Portillo is captivated by sea legends and fairy lore while visiting the glens of Antrim, a region rich in Irish folklore and magic.

Whitehead, at the mouth of Belfast Lough, is home to a magnificent museum devoted to Ireland’s railway past, which he visits. On the waterfront in the meantime, Michael has joined a Whitehead Coastal Rowing Club crew getting ready for a race.

Michael learns about the town’s historical significance in Ireland at the mediaeval Carrickfergus Castle, where William of Orange landed before heading to the Battle of the Boyne.
