Hornsea, a charming seaside town known for its distinctive pottery, is the next stop on Michael Portillo’s journey. While in Hull, he learns how one of the stars of Hull FC became the first black rugby captain in Britain.
Michael hops a ride on a sleek looking barge leaving Hull and making its way along a series of canals to Goole. Michael learns at Spurn Point that the RNLI developed a brilliant device in the 19th century that helped save countless lives along this coast. Michael is given the opportunity to steer the Pride of the Humber, the largest all-weather lifeboat in the fleet.
