Historian Amanda Vickery and broadcaster Tom Service uncover the fascinating story of composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst’s lifelong friendship, which gave birth to the ‘English sound’ in the early twentieth century. They retrace the two composers’ walking trips across the country to see how influences ranging from Renaissance masters to folk music imbued their music with the ‘Englishness’ that is now recognised.
