Idris Elba’s Fight School Season 1 Episode 4 (BBC Two Sun 15 May 2022)

Endurance: When Idris finally tells his team who they’ll be fighting in their official amateur fights, they’re taken aback. As the big night approaches, he organises a training session with John McAvoy, an ex-convict turned world-record-breaking rower who inspires them with his own heroic story before challenging them to an epic race on the Thames.

The students return home to see friends and family after three months of nonstop training. Some people use it as an opportunity to reflect on how far they’ve come and what they’re trying to leave behind, while others find it difficult to stay on the straight and narrow.

Coach Greg returns to Fight School and discovers a significant drop in student fitness. Katie, the group’s newest recruit, who joined six weeks into the process, impresses in her first spar, but the intensity of the training takes a toll on some of the group, jeopardising a number of the team’s spots.

This episode concludes with a third and final spar night, giving the fighters one last chance to show Idris and Head Coach Rachel that they’re capable of fighting at York Hall. The bouts are held at Earlsfield, one of London’s most famous amateur boxing clubs, which adds to the pressure. Idris, determined to get the most out of his team, decides to enter the ring himself.

Airdate: Sunday 15 May 2022 at 9.00pm on BBC Two.
