Jonathan Ross’ Myths and Legends Scotland (More4 Monday 27 March 2023)
Today Monday 27 March 2023, there is a new episode of Jonathan Ross’ Myths and Legends.
Scotland On this episode, Jonathan explores the Highlands of Scotland and the Isle of Skye. Author Neil Gaiman, a friend of Jonathan’s, gave him a warm welcome to his home on the Isle of Skye by describing the island’s rich mythology and folklore.
After that, Jonathan travels across Skye in search of the island’s fairyfolk, who supposedly have the power to magically impart musical aptitude, and visits Dunscaith Castle, the home of one of Skye’s fabled warrior queens, Scáthach.
Naturally curious as to whether or not he has been blessed, Jonathan gives the bagpipes a try before departing Skye and setting sail to spread the tale of Saucy Mar. While on dry land, Jonathan hears tales of the mythological water horses known as The Kelpies, who live in the lochs and lure unsuspecting people to their deaths.
Jonathan and the explorer Amar Latif go out to find Scotland’s most infamous fabled creature, Nessie, during their time in Scotland. At last, Jonathan hears from Lady Cawdor herself the stories and traditions surrounding Cawdor Castle and its ties to Shakespeare’s most supernatural drama, Macbeth.
