Jonathan Ross’ Myths and Legends South West England (More4 Monday 3 April 2023)
Today Monday 3 April 2023, there is a new episode of Jonathan Ross’ Myths and Legends.
South West England A trip to the southwest of England is in store for Jonathan. He begins his quest at Tintagel Castle, the site where King Arthur is said to have been conceived in legend, and there he encounters archaeologist Win Scutt. In order to honour the elements, Jonathan and Michelle, the “Wyse Witch of Cornwall,” conduct a ritual in Merlin’s Cave, located beneath the palace.
The next stop is Slaughterbridge, where King Arthur is said to have fought his final fight and where an intriguingly inscribed stone may prove his existence. After leaving the Cornish coast, Jonathan goes underground in the Geevor Tin Mine in search of the gnome-like knockers, and then into the woods of Luxulyan Valley with a local folklore specialist in search of piskies and spriggans.
Jonathan visits his idol, fantasy film creature designer and artist Brian Froud, before venturing across Bodmin Moor to learn about one of our more modern myths, the Beast of Bodmin, and examine the evidence for its existence.
At the conclusion of his journey, Jonathan returns to Glastonbury to revisit the Abbey where he believes King Arthur to be buried. At long last, Jonathan musters the energy to climb Glastonbury Tor, where he will join a “Earth Priestess” in honouring Morgan Le Fay, an enchantress from Arthurian legend.
