Lost On Everest: Premiere (Channel 9 Tuesday 23 May 2023)
Lost On Everest: Premiere airs Tuesday 23 May 2023 on Channel 9.
George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, two British explorers, vanished in 1924 after being seen 800 feet (244 metres) from the peak of Everest.
Whether or not these two mountaineers were the first to successfully summit the world’s tallest mountain may be determined by the photographs they took on their final day of the expedition.
In 1999, 75 years after George Mallory’s death, his body was discovered, but no camera was present. So it’s generally accepted that Andrew Irvine was the last person to have the camera, and that it now lies with his corpse.
In this stunning documentary, we follow journalist Mark Synnott and National Geographic photographer Renan Ozturk as they assemble a team of professional climbers, filmmakers, and experts to reveal new details about the whereabouts of Irvine’s body.
The film inside their Vest Pocket Kodak camera holds the key to solving the greatest mystery surrounding Mount Everest and has the potential to alter the course of history if recovered.
Lost on Everest is produced and directed by Renan Ozturk, with Taylor Rees as executive producer, for National Geographic. The documentary is narrated by actor Tate Donovan (MacGyver, The Man in the High Castle).
Lost On Everest: Premiere airs Tuesday 23 May 2023 at 8.40pm on Channel 9
