Love Story: Love in a Geary Suit (S5EP1 ITV Thurs 6 Jul 1967, Julie Samuel, Kate Williams)
Love in a Geary Suit, the opening episode of the fifth season, took us a trendy boutique in Carnaby Street run by Sandra and the unusually named Jeopardy. Sandra fancies upper-class Nigel (who runs an interior design business with his partner Jed, played by a young Malcolm McDowell) but Nigel fancies the cockney Jeopardy.
There was a bit of a reverse Pygmalion theme going on as posh Sandra downgrades her vocal patterns to sound more like Jeopardy (who was played by real life cockney Kate Williams).
Speaking in the TV Times for the week of the premiere of the first episode of the new season, producer Rex Firkin said that the plan for this season was to focus on the younger generation and was offering younger writers the chance to contribute scripts. Caroline Seebohm and Jane Gaskell were both new to TV. Gaskell is better known as a successful fantasy novelist, her non fantasy novel All Neat in Black Stockings was filmed in 1968.
Besides McDowell there were a few other well known faces in the cast including comedy actress Deidre Costello, John Challis (best known for playing Boycie in Only Fools and Horses) and Tim Barrett who also tended towards comedy roles.
