Love Story: My Brother Peter (S11EP4 ITV Tues 11 Dec 1973, Nigel Davenport, Judy Parfitt)

Love Story My Brother Peter ITV 1973 Judy Parfitt Nigel Davenport

In My Brother Peter, Joe has left his wife to take up with the young and pretty Carol convinced he has discovered real love with her. His brother John remains unconvinced, after all this isn’t the first time Peter has done this.

Mt Brother Peter was written by Eric Chappell. This was Chappell’s second TV credit after a Late Night Theatre episode earlier in the year (We’re Strangers Here). He had recently begun writing full time after years as a travelling auditor. He would hit the big time the following year, first with sitcom The Squirrels (which was based on his previous working life) and then with all time classic Rising Damp.

There was a very strong cast appearing too, the fabulous Nigel Davenport played John with Keith Barron very much playing to type as the fickle Peter. Judy Parfitt had already notched up guest appearances in prominent shows throughout the sixties and is still going strong with one of the main roles in hugely popular BBC drama Call The Midwife. Gorgeous Susan Penhaligon was making strong career inroads at this time, the same year she had the female lead in the movie farce No Sex Please – We’re British.
