Maternal Episode 2 (ITV1 Monday 23 January 2023)

Maternal airs a new episode tonight Monday 23 January 2023 on ITV1.

Episode 2 Elis now has a father in Lars, who has flown in from Sweden to be there for Catherine. That is, until she sees his sexy, judgmental wife Brigitta accompanying him. Catherine has been having difficulty obtaining surgical hours due to personnel shortages, which has led to the cancellation of many surgeries. It doesn’t take long for Catherine to realise that communication isn’t her forte, which is problematic given that she’s responsible with disappointing the patients.

Maryam is also being quiet because she hasn’t told Raz what occurred with Edward Williams. When Maryam learns that the crime would be investigated, Catherine and Helen comfort her that everything will be all right. Maryam, though, is worried that her old fears and uncertainties are returning. When she is told that she may soon be expanding her family, it compounds the difficulties she already experiences as a doctor and a mother.

For Helen, marital tensions rise when her hitherto distant sister Debbie shows up at the hospital, much to the chagrin of her husband Guy, who views Debbie as little more than an addict and an alcoholic. Debbie has arrived to pick up her injured son Callum, an epileptic, and Helen must decide where her allegiances lie as doubts arise concerning Callum’s medication and Debbie’s addiction.

Catherine must also make a crucial choice. Catherine realises after a difficult day on the job that she needs support raising baby Elis if she has any hope of being hired as a Consultant. But does she have any intention of agreeing to Lars and Brigitta’s demands?
