Maternal airs a new episode tonight Monday 30 January 2023 on ITV1.

Helen is the lone female patient in her couples therapy. She freely acknowledges that she and Guy are often bickering with one another. She is left with an unanswered question about how Guy handles his frustration.

Meanwhile, Maryam and Raz meet with the Adoption Support group to talk about Sami’s sister’s impending birth. Raz is eager for them to take her, but Maryam is uneasy about the meeting since it makes her question her sanity.

Maryam tries to show up to work and maintain her concentration on her patients despite these distractions and the impending investigation.

One such patient is Jakub, a paediatrics regular whom Maryam treats with expertise and compassion. Maryam starts to see the reality of her own predicament when Raz comes in with one of his students, a young man with mental health issues.

Catherine signs paperwork allowing Elis to stay with Lars and Brigitta in Sweden so that she can rack up surgical hours before her interview for Consultant. Catherine, relieved to have childcare covered, focuses entirely on her job and does an excellent job of removing the gallbladder of a pregnant woman.

However, she is not ready for what comes next, either professionally or personally. Helen and Guy’s and Catherine’s problems reach a climax when the four of them go on a double date with Catherine’s plus one, an anesthesiologist named Matt.

Catherine is obviously trying to numb her emotions with alcohol, but as the night wears on, it’s Guy who’s becoming the more menacing presence.
