Maternal airs a new episode tonight Monday 6 February 2023 on ITV.
“Episode 4” Catherine needs a diversion while Lars and Brigitta take care of Elis for the weekend, so Maryam’s mosque friends throw her a “Ladies Night” complete with a buffet, DJ, and dance floor. Maryam isn’t thrilled to spend the evening with a group of women who treat her like a doctor and a mother who shows her off, but as Ladies Night progresses, she starts to feel some of her nervousness subsiding.
Meanwhile, Helen is working the overnight shift at the Acute Medical Unit and is consequently exhausted after 12 hours of nonstop action. Helen’s work is one of the hardest in the hospital, as seen by the constant stream of difficult patients, including ex-Matron Amanda and her critically ill wife. Helen’s work becomes one of the loneliest as the night progresses and she learns something disturbing about Guy, not to mention the fact that she is desperately needed elsewhere.
As morning approaches, Catherine and Maryam’s Ladies Night takes an unexpected turn, forcing Catherine to confront one of the greatest difficulties of her surgical career. Maryam realises the truth of her emotions after the events of the night and decides to start being open and honest with the people she cares about.
By morning, Helen has realised that she can no longer rely on Guy, so she looks elsewhere for solace and strength.
