In this episode, Matt has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see thousands of massive elephant seals up close as they are being tracked by scientists along the Pacific coast of California.

In Rainbow’s rolling hills, he meets a flower grower who has had great success despite the challenging terrain. When Matt visits the wild-west town of Pioneertown up in the north, he runs into real people who live in a place that was originally made for the movies.

He takes longer hikes into the Santa Rosa Mountains with conservationists who are working to repopulate dwindling populations of desert bighorn sheep. Finally, he makes a pit stop in Santa Cruz, where he learns about the history of surfing in the United States and gets to watch a world champion surf-dog in action while assisting a master craftsman who is building surfboards out of driftwood.

Matt Baker, who has spent his entire life travelling the countryside of the United Kingdom, finally makes the trip across the Atlantic to the United States. While on the road, Matt experiences rural culture, gets up close and personal with local wildlife, and learns about the people who are responsible for maintaining the world-class landscapes he sees in Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California.
