Mike and Bernie: The Dog It Was That Died (S1EP6 ITV Tues 18 Jan 1972, Anthony Jackson)

In The Dog It Was That Died, the final episode in the series, Mike and Bernie decide to take out insurance only as always where the dynamic duo are concerned, things don’t go as planned.

Brian Oulton, who plays Mr Parker, had a very long film and TV career, always in character parts. He made his film debut with an uncredited appearance in Gracie Fields comedy Sally in Our Alley in 1931 and his TV debut in 1937 play Viennese Honeymoon. High profile roles included the role of Mr Hay, the manager in 1960 TV series Hotel Imperial and regular role as Mr Trumper in Mr Digby Darling (1969).

Anthony Jackson was another actor with a long career, best known for playing Sid’s next door neighbour Trevor in popular sitcom Bless This House and Fred Mumford in cult kids classic Rentaghost.

That was it for the series although Mike and Bernie would continue mixing sketch and acting for another few years, most notably with The Redman and Ross Story.
