Orange Is The New Black: Bora Bora Bora (Netflix 13 July 2013)

Published

Bora Bora Bora is quite the sad episode as Tricia is back after finally getting free of drugs, she feels she needs to make it up to Red but Mendez has his own plans for her; Things take a turn for the worse when Mendez forces Tricia to deal the drugs he has been bringing into the prison using Red’s food delivery truck, instead Tricia takes an overdose of the drugs and is found dead in a closet by Mendez who then fakes her death to make it look like she hung herself. The flashbacks also mostly focus on Tricia who was finding it very difficult living on the streets. The only positive outcome from the events is that Red and Nicky (who tells Red it was her that spilled the beans to Mendez not Tricia) determine to get rid of the vile Mendez once and for all.

Meanwhile Bennett discovers Daya is pregnant when Cesar pays him a surprise visit at home and we also learn that Bennett didn’t lose his leg in Afghanistan but from an infected cut he got from an hot tub in Florida; A group of young teen offenders, part of a program called Scared Straight, pay a visit to the prison but it doesn’t go well and Alex and Piper are plotting to bring down Pennsatucky who is convinced she has the power, through Jesus, to heal people.

Like any series with such a large ensemble cast there is a huge amount going on in each episode, Bora Bora Bora is no exception. Tricia was not a major character but was on the periphery of a fair amount of action so her death is definitely a surprise. Mendez’s depth of evil seems to have no bottom and he is a real nasty piece of work.

Hazell Gets The Boot

In Hazell Gets The Boot Hazell finds himself more or less coerced into taking on a supposedly simple job for villain Dave Castle. His Bently has been stolen and he wants James to get it back for him. Hazell’s investigation leads him to a scrap yard where the car is being hidden. He gets more than he bargained for when two of the Connell gang ambush him and give him a thorough going over.

Meanwhile Hazell’s love life is also going through a troublesome patch. Patsy Flanagan is spending some time at his flat after having a dust up with her husband. Hazell is keen for the arrangement to be just a night or two of pleasure but Patsy is keen on a more permanent arrangement.
