The Power Game: The New Boy (ITV 13 Dec 1965, with Barbara Murray)

In The New Boy, the opening episode of the series, Sir John Wilder is bored of his new retirement. A chance to assume the joint managing directorship of civil engineering firm Caswell Bligh Construction is just what he needs. Both Caswell Bligh himself and his son Kenneth stand in his way.

A strong opening episode, you don’t need to have seen The Plane Makers to get straight into the story. Sir John is clearly a tough and intelligent businessman used to getting his own way and of course by the end of the episode has got what he wanted.

classic quote
“The boy is better off. Under your thumb he’d stay a midget all his life.”
