Q+A This Week on ABC TV, Monday 10 April 2023
The political landscape of Australia is shifting, with a new generation making its mark.
What do some of the country’s youthful power brokers make of the recent election results at the state and federal level, which illustrate that nothing can be taken for granted? How exactly do they plan on using their opinions to affect change?
As the referendum date draws near, the Liberal Party has made clear that it will campaign against the Voice to Parliament, even though senators and representatives will be given a free vote on the matter. Liberals, despite Peter Dutton’s claims that they back constitutional recognition for Indigenous Australians, risk being on the wrong side of history if they don’t back the Voice.
Where does religion fit into the trend towards political convictions being based on individual morals? Does religion have a place in politics, or should the two be kept apart?
Mortgage holders can breathe a sigh of relief; interest rates have been held steady by the Reserve Bank for the first time in a year, just in time for the Easter holiday. Is this relief only brief, though? And will it really help people who are having trouble making ends meet?
All this, and more weekly news, will be discussed by the panel, hosted by Stan Grant, live from Sydney:
Andrew Neil, British journalist and broadcaster
Anne Pattel-Gray, Head of School of Indigenous Studies, University of Divinity
Kanishka Raffel, Anglican Archbishop of Sydney
Fatima Payman, Labor Senator for WA
Zara Seidler, Co-founder of The Daily Aus
