On Monday’s Q+A…

Indigenous leaders, accompanied by a deeply moved Anthony Albanese, have revealed the wording of the referendum question for the Voice referendum that will be presented to the nation. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called on the Australian public to support the vote and questioned when else such a vote could occur.

The announcement was made just before South Australia’s assembly holds a special sitting on Sunday, passing its own First Nations Voice Bill, the first such law in the country. The Prime Minister has emphasized that the Voice has no power of veto; however, it remains unknown whether this will satisfy the opponents of the Voice or what implications the question will have for the sovereignty of First Nations.

Meanwhile, as the excitement surrounding the referendum announcement dies down, the reality of Australia’s submarine deal is settling in. Members of the Labour party are expressing their concerns about the deal, which may end up costing far more than the proposed $368 billion. What is the true cost of security?

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas is marking one year in office as the only opposition leader who has succeeded in unseating a Premier during the pandemic. Will New South Wales follow in his footsteps, resulting in a new leader after the weekend’s state election?

The panel for the episode includes: Peter Malinauskas, Premier of SA; Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, Country Liberal Senator for NT; Jordon Steele-John, Greens Senator for WA; and Richard Spencer, Former Secretary of the US Navy.

Airdate: Monday 27 March 2023 at 9.35pm on ABC TV.
