SAS: Who Dares Wins Episode 1 (Channel 4 Monday 23 January 2023)

Today Monday 23 January 2023, there is a new episode of SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Episode 1 Twenty fresh recruits return to “Jungle Hell,” in television’s most challenging show. Special forces members are measured against the standard set by the SAS’s jungle phase of selection. A crack team of former US and UK special forces operators are at the helm of the new show.

This year’s leader is jungle warfare specialist Billy Billingham. His new Directing Staff (DS) is Chris Oliver, who has been in the military for over 16 years and has served in a variety of capacities around the world. US-based brothers Foxy and Rudy Reyes are back for Chris’s latest adventure.

The DS have pooled their expertise in jungle warfare to design the ultimate test of manhood in a hostile environment where every element is out to get him. The rules of guerilla warfare were rewritten in Vietnam, and the country is rife with battle history. The odds can be in your favour or against you, and you might even be pushed or broken, but in the end, only the strongest will make it.

Twenty new recruits are given the daunting task of navigating the ‘trainasium,’ which is hung fifty feet in the air. The dread of the unknown must be overcome if the recruits are to succeed. Concern is not tolerated in the elite armed forces. It’s impossible to make it to the top ranks of the military if you’re paralysed by dread.

The DS expects recruits to demonstrate they are not powerless in the face of adversity. They will be subject to an early inspection later on to make sure they are following DS regulations. If some people are found out for lack of discipline, then everyone must face the price.

At last, the recruits face up against one of the most perilous infiltration techniques utilised by the SAS: an abseil down a waterfall. With a treacherous 215-foot plunge ahead of him, one of the recruits finds himself in the clutches of the water.

Season 8 Episode 1

Selection for the SAS is one of the world’s toughest job interviews and physical fitness is only the starting point. What’s really being tested is psychological resilience and character as candidates undergo sleep deprivation, interrogation and a series of increasingly complex mind games. In this programme, five ex-special forces soldiers re-create tasks from the SAS’s secret selection process, putting 30 civilian men through the ultimate test of their physical and – more importantly – their psychological resilience.
