Sir Antony Gormley, the artist responsible for the piece’s design, sits down with us to discuss his inspirations and methods. The former bishop of Jarrow shares his faith in the uplifting power of angelic figures with Kate and describes how the Angel serves as a place of worship. Before going on an angel adventure with a local family, Kate learns about Sister Winifred Laver, the true Angel of the North.

Songs of Praise is a BBC Television religious programme that presents Christian hymns which first aired in October 1961. The first edition was broadcast from the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cardiff, and the series is one of the longest-running of its kind on television anywhere in the world.
