A hilarious look back at the many times beloved deadpan comedian Les Dawson has appeared on various BBC talk shows over the years.

Dawson (who died in 1993) was so much more than just a comedian, he was also a poet, a novelist and talented musician. Soon after his discovery on Opportunity Knocks, he starred in his own YTV series called Sez Les, where he created and perfected characters like the seedy Cosmo Smallpiece and a gossipy housewife double act (Cissie and Ada) with Roy Barraclough. Taking over for Terry Wogan on Blankety Blank, he kept the show’s high ratings and also hosted The Les Dawson Show while still at the BBC. In 1990, he was finally able to come full circle by hosting Opportunity Knocks. His final acting role was as the comedic Morton Stanley in the comedy-drama Demob.
