In Carve Up Hackett investigates a burglary at the home of a prominent councillor, nothing was apparently stolen but it soon becomes clear that something very shady is going on. As Hackett digs deeper he is warned off by Detective Chief Superintendent Neville Clegg but of course Hackett being Hackett he decides instead to sleep with Clegg’s daughter Susan instead (to be fair Susan is putting it about a bit also having flings with bad boy Billy Voss and councillor Trist.

An excellent guest cast finishes off this first season with a bang, there are roles for a young Brian Cox, a pre Not the Nine O’Clock News Pamela Stephenson (who was still stuck doing the blonde bit part roles at this point having left Australia a couple of years before where she was quite a well known actress with a lead role in the series Ryan), Freddie Jones and Anthony Ainley (pre The Master).

Clever script from the always reliable Baker and Martin too, you n never quite know where Clegg’s loyalties lay until the final scenes.
