The Guardians: Appearances (ITV 14 Aug 1971, with Dinsdale Landen)

In Appearances, having killed the private detective that was tailing him Benedict has passed the point of no return as far as being a part of Quarmby is concerned. Quarmby is the group that is determined to bring down the government and the Guardians. The group realises it needs to step up it’s activities and plan an explosion at a prominent Guardians location.

It turns out that Tom Weston is not dead after all but being detained in a Guardians ‘health facility’. He is sort of being brainwashed to get rid of any communist feelings he may have.

‘Miss Quarmby’, who is a prominent Quarmby is in charge of the attack, it goes off without a hitch but they are unable to make a get away, in the violent shootout that follows, the two other Quarmby’s are killed (one of them by Miss Quarmby when he tries to run away) and Miss Quarmby herself takes the suicide pill she has been wearing as an earring.

All very surreal but with each episode layers are being slowly revealed. By the end of the episode Christopher Hobson has been contacted by Quarmby….
