In The Logical Approach the death penalty has been brought back and a young nineteen year old man, Gary Wilson, in the same prison as Sir Timothy’s son Christopher is due to be executed. Despite a campaign to try and stop the hanging of Gary Wilson he is actually killed by lethal injection the night before his hanging.

Gary’s father Sam receives a call from a man called Quarmby, he has also contacted Clare Weston. It’s clear that he is a subversive of some kind.

Meanwhile with Christopher now out of prison his father wants him to act as a sort of spy, finding out as much as he can about what is really going on, Chris makes it plain that he is not really on his father’s side when it comes to the way the country is run.
