The Guardians: The Roman Empire (ITV 18 Sep 1971, with James Grout)

In The Roman Empire Clare has arranged to see Christopher, it’s clear the pair still love each other but it seems like an impossible situation. Tom (and Clare) are still hiding out in Benedict’s flat, Christopher is concerned that, as the Prime Minister’s son, is being followed.

Meanwhile a middle aged has joined a cult like organisation that is devoted to releasing the self. Christopher has become concerned, he has a kind of watching brief for his father, looking into possible signs of unrest, about a spate of suicides, including a young girl setting fire to herself on Primrose Hill. He quickly discovers the deaths are linked to the cult.

We also learn that Norman is an in-the-closet homosexual and that he is also still suffering mini heart attacks. His christian name is revealed to be Dennis too.
