Today Tuesday 21 March 2023, there is a new episode of The Holy Land and Us – Our Untold Stories.
Episode 2 Rob Rinder and Sarah Agha, along with four other families of Jewish and Palestinian origin, examine the effects of Israel’s establishment in 1948 on their personal histories in this riveting two-part documentary series. This was the long-awaited chance for Jewish people everywhere to finally feel secure. The events of this time are known as the Nakba (Arabic for “Catastrophe”) by Palestinians. This series gets to the heart of what happened to people on both sides as the Middle East was altered via riveting and very personal experiences.
As the presenters and participants delve deeper into the effects of the turmoil of the time on their families, they come to realise how irrevocably altered their fates have become. Rob traces his relative’s voyage from Europe to the newly founded state of Israel, while Sarah Agha learns the circumstances under which her family departed their Galilean hamlet in 1948.
Two women join Rob and Sarah to discuss their family histories: one wants to know why her aunts fled Egypt for the new state of Israel when she was a toddler, and the other wants to know what happened to her family while her grandfather fought to keep his land and orange orchards in Jaffa.
