The Last of the Baskets: For I’m to be Queen of the May (S1EP4 ITV Mon 7 Jun 1971, Norman Scace)
In For I’m to be Queen of the May, Clifford is making quiet inroads to public life as Earl of Clogborugh. He is judging the Queen May Contest at the church hall. He quickly finds that certain people have strong ideas about who should be crowned May Queen.
Writer John Stevenson mostly specialised in sitcoms, he had recently worked on the prison bound Her Majesty’s Pleasure (1969) and after Last of the Baskets went on to work on Nearest and Dearest and How’s Your Father. His best known work though is the very well remembered 1980’s sitcom Brass. Stevenson also wrote 240 episodes of Coronation Street between 1976 and 2006.
