In The Hive, it’s now three years later. The blackout survivors have all become parents to a brood of highly unusual children. The mothers have come to adore them, though the origin and indeed the intention of these children remains unknown. Despite the relative peace that has befallen Midwich, Susannah can’t shake off her angst. Then one day, on the eve of the children’s first day at school, a new mysterious child arrives in Midwich.
Her mother, Amrita, claims she was forced to bring her against her will. As if she was controlled. Zoe’s old concerns are reignited and a schism forms between her and Sam. Meanwhile Susannah unravels a frightening discovery pertaining to the children’s arrival which will have major repercussions for the community that she has become something of a priest to. When one of the mothers tries to go against her child’s wishes, Susannah’s worst fears become a reality.
