The Peninsula Nurses: Episode 2 airs Monday 29 May 2023 on BBC One Northern Ireland
Lisa, a nurse, takes advantage of her day off by visiting a farm store in nearby Kircubbin. Farmer Davy Kerr opened the store during lockdown so that residents would have access to healthy food. Since then, it has become a hub for the neighbourhood and a location where many people feel comfortable speaking their native language of Ulster-Scots. Davy’s late mother was a community nurse, so he has a deep respect for Lisa and her colleagues in the field.
Lisa elaborates on the significance of palliative care within community nursing, noting that it may take years to develop meaningful relationships with patients who will require this specialised form of nursing care.
Tanya visits beloved community elder and Portaferry resident TC first thing in the morning. Jenny, a local district nurse, will be speaking to the P1 students at Portavogie Primary School. The wedding of Gemma’s closest friend Doris’s daughter is coming up, and Gemma is on a mission to make sure that Phyllis, a woman from Donaghadee, is healthy enough to attend.
