The Real Windsors: The Outspoken Heir Episode 2 (Channel 4 Sunday 14 August 2022)
As the reign of the longest-serving British monarch draws to a close, the world’s most famous dynasty braces for seismic change. This three-part series shines a light on an institution at a crucial moment, with individual films on the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William. Searching questions about the resilience of the monarchy in a world of social media and political upheaval ask: what next for the Royal House of Windsor?
The series includes interviews with people who have worked with the royals at close hand, some of whom have never spoken before on camera, personal friends, and people at the heart of the story, combined with rarely seen archive. In this episode, Prince Charles has served a long apprenticeship for the role of monarch, during which he has enjoyed the highs and lows of public support. Throughout his adult life, Charles has expressed his opinions on a broad range of issues.
Oddball eccentric or green visionary; adulterer or committed husband and father; out of touch or an environmental activist; and passionate believer in supporting young and disadvantaged people: how will Charles step into the enormous shoes left by his mother? Has he pulled off the most extraordinary rebrand just in time for his coronation, or will the public lose interest in the royal family when he becomes king?
