The Repair Shop: Today (Monday 14 November 2022 BBC One)
Three prized possessions are given new life by Jay Blades and the team, bringing back memories they once held.
Nina and Santinder Maan are the first people through the barn doors, hoping that Dominic Chinea will use his expertise in signwriting to save a shop front sign that is slowly falling apart. The plywood sign was on the corner store owned by their late mother in a Berkshire village. For 27 years, Prakash owned and operated the neighbourhood store that sold fresh produce and other items. The shop quickly established itself as a hub in the community thanks to the consistently friendly service. Customers frequently became friends and joined the family in the shop’s back room for a cup of tea. In the apartment above the shop, three generations were raised, and Nina and Santinder have pleasant memories of those times. The family kept the sign after they closed their business for good. However, it is currently collapsing, the plywood is splitting, and the paint is flaking. Dom prepares his best paints and brushes before starting to work.
The next person to arrive is leather expert Suzie Fletcher. Mark Whitmore brings a priceless memento of a wonderful son with him. The amazing young man named Michael, who always lived life to the fullest, was the owner of the leather braided bracelet. He purchased it while visiting distant locations and wore it every day. When he died at the age of 28 in a motorcycle accident, his family was devastated. Although Sue, Mark’s wife, has found a lot of comfort in wearing the bracelet, it is now so dry and delicate that Sue is hesitant to keep wearing it. To ensure that it can be worn with confidence and serve as a constant reminder of a dearly missed son, Suzie must carefully reinforce the leather and attach a fastening.
The charming stone statue of a dancing bear that Nick Arnold purchased in Canada to commemorate an anniversary is finally being delivered by Chris Fay and his father-in-law Nick Arnold. The large object was brought back to the family house and displayed for all to see on a shelf in the kitchen. Then, several years prior, Chris, who was dating Nick’s daughter at the time, came for lunch. It broke into several pieces when it hit the ground after he unintentionally knocked it off the shelf, which he still regrets. Fortunately for Chris, conservator Kirsten Ramsay saves him, restores his reputation, and everything is made right.
