The Sooty Show: Jimmy Jewel (S7EP1 ITV Tues 4 Jan 1972)



In the first episode of The Sooty Show for 1972, Sooty is having dreams about being the captain of a ship, unfortunately Unable Seaman Sweep keeps appearing to get in Sooty’s and with a storm brewing his dreams are fast becoming a nightmare.

Sooty also finds time for some magic tricks and some fun with guest star, comedian Jimmy Jewel (who was starring in Nearest and Dearest at the time). Jimmy manages to get himself tangled in a deck chair.

Jimmy Jewel had for years been part of a music hall double act with his cousin Ben Warriss, later in the mid-1960’s the pair split with Warriss continuing on stage and Jimmy moving into with lead roles in several very popular sitcoms. After Nearest and Dearest in starred for several years in another ITV sitcom – Spring and Autumn.
