The Unofficial Science of Home Alone (Sky Max Monday 19 December 2022)
: James Acaster, Guz Khan, and Alex Brooker, all famous comedians, have been huge fans of the original Home Alone movie since they were young.
Watching Macauley Culkin’s Kevin McAllister set a series of deadly traps to deter the inept burglars “The Wet Bandits” from breaking into his house is a necessary Christmas tradition.
But the question that has plagued Home Alone fans since the film’s release has never been satisfactorily answered: would Harry and Marv have survived those traps if they had been set in the real world? It’s time to find out, I guess.
With the help of an engineer, Guz and James will play the roles of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern from the film The Wet Bandits by creating replicas of iconic booby traps like “The Blowtorch to the Head” and “The Swinging Paint Can.”
They’ll learn the extent of the damage they could cause in the real world, how science can aid them in avoiding the traps, and ultimately how to catch their own Kevin McAllister.
And Superfan Alex Brooker is fulfilling his wildest dreams by travelling to the U.S. to meet the cast and stuntmen, see the film’s iconic locations, and find out more about the traps and stunts that Guz and James will be attempting. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!
