What is this episode about

Two world wars, the fall of empires, coronations, weddings, glittering tours, fashion and scandals: the British royal family was at the centre of it all in the 20th century. This four-part documentary follows royal and state visits around the world, uncovering stories from far-flung places, glimpses into the lives of those born of royal blood, and exploring the history of the symbolic locations on the royal touring map.

This episode looks back at the 1960s, analysing the decade’s political upheaval and the shifting role of the Windsors in relation to the Commonwealth. Independence movements among former colonies are frequently met with bloodshed. There has been a decline in tourism to these regions as Britain and other former colonial powers adjust to the new global order and their diminished power.
