Three Comedies of Marriage: Bobby Bluesocks (S1EP1 ITV Thurs 3 Jul 1975, David Warner, Sheila White)

In Bobby Bluesocks, the first of Three Comedies of Marriage, David Warner plays the Bobby of the title who is seriously struggling to understand how marriage works. Bobby and Susan have only been married a short time and both are still finding their way.

Writer David Fitzsimmons was making his TV debut here, hot on the heels of a successful West End play called Judies that had starred husband and wife team John Alderton and Pauline Collins. His only other TV credits are for an episode of Turning Year Tales and the 1980 sitcom Coming Home.

Star David Warner had taken something of an acting back seat in recent years, there was a downbeat interview with him in the week’s TV Times. The rest of the cast were pretty much all well known TV faces. Co-star Sheila White was scoring some prominent roles at the time too, she was appearing in the Confessions Of… movie series and would score her most prominent roles in Poldark and the following year I Claudius.
