Van der Valk: Payback In Amsterdam (Season 2 Final ITV Sun 21 Aug, 2022)

In Payback In Amsterdam, Van Der Valk and his team must consider whether Fleur Mas, a classical musician and former musical prodigy, was killed or maimed in the acid attack that caused her to suffer these injuries. Was the attacker trying to convey a message as the attack occurred in the crowded concert hall foyer with numerous witnesses?

When Brad and Job interview the victim’s partner, Femke De Haan, the guest conductor who also happens to be Lucienne’s ex, the investigation unexpectedly takes a personal turn. The orchestra is fundraising for “No To Silence,” an organisation that supports sexual assault victims and encourages those affected to come forward, as they prepare for their annual performance on the canal.

The team learns from Femke that Fleur claimed she was being stalked just before she was killed, but they are unable to locate any documentation of Fleur making such a claim. However, they are able to learn that she met up with a hacker and an investigative journalist the day before her attack.

In order to uncover an international sex trafficking network with connections all the way to the top, the investigation forces Van Der Valk and his team to deal with corruption and coercion at the highest levels of authority. How much do wealth and power shield those committing the most heinous of crimes—especially when royalty and politicians are allegedly involved?
