What’s Happening on The Repair Shop Today Thursday 10 November 2022 on BBC One
What’s Happening on The Repair Shop Today Thursday 10 November on BBC One; Three prized heirlooms are restored by Jay Blades and the team, bringing back priceless memories of the past.
Helen Giltrow is the first to arrive, carrying a tiny silver kettle. Brenton West, a silversmith, may be able to revive its singing. According to Helen’s family, the tiny treasure was created by her great-grandfather, a tinsmith by trade, and was made from a silver shilling. Helen’s mother received the kettle and proudly displayed it in a cabinet. The silver has aged and tarnished, the lid has broken off, and the object is now more than 150 years old. Brenton performs some precise soldering to bring this amazing little object back to life because he is so impressed by the craftsmanship.
Luthier Laura Reeves introduces herself to Rebecca Houghton and brings a violin that reminds her of her grandfather Ken’s musical past. Ken was a gifted performer who played in a band and was involved with the neighbourhood opera group. He left Laura with many good memories, and she would dearly love to hear his violin again. She has only recently begun taking lessons herself and aspires to play the instrument that her grandfather played. The violin, though, is more than a century old and is disintegrating right before her eyes. To revive this beloved violin, Rebecca has a massive task on her hands.
The last person to enter the barn is Douglas White, who is carrying a broken toy that has made his entire family happy. He is placing all of his faith in mechanical genius David Burville to restart it. Douglas’ parents had given him a vintage tin rocket for Christmas, and he was immediately enthralled by it. To the delight of everyone who came to play, he recalls it zooming around on the lino floor. David Burville outdoes himself by coming up with a brilliant fix to fulfil Douglas’ wish to see it fired up once more.
