Who-Dun-It: Death in a Seance (S1EP12 ITV Tues 4 Nov 1969, Anthony Sagar, Leslie Bates)
Detective Inspector White finds himself involved in the world of spiritualism when he investigates Death in a Seance.
This penultimate episode of Who-Dun-It introduces a new detective that we haven’t seen before, in the shape of Anthony Sagar’s D.I. White, he would also appear in the final episode of the series. For whatever reason several of the ITV regions were showing less than total commitment to the series by this stage. Yorkshire were not showing it every week and moved the show to a post News at Ten slot on a Monday night.
Anthony Sagar sadly died at the age of 52, just a few years later at the beginning of 1973, he was another of those valuable character players in film and TV during the 1960’s including appearances in 7 of the Carry On films. The rest of the cast is quite low profile for this one, Gordon Rollings was the narrater of much loved kids series The Herbs (1968) and the following year would co-star in Bright’s Boffins. He remained a TV regular until his death in 1985. Likewise Carmel McSharry who in 1973 scored her biggest role playing Beryl in popular series Beryl’s Lot.
