Within These Walls: Islands in the Heartline (ITV 11 Dec 1976, with Simon MacCorkindale)

Within These Walls

In Islands in the Heartline, young inmate Sarah is in the hospital, she is anorexic and not eating. Dr Peter Mayes has been taking a keen interest in her well-being and Sarah herself ends up becoming somewhat obsessed with Dr Mayes.

Meanwhile hoity-toity Mrs Butcher-Brown is having trouble with someone stealing from her and fellow inmate Ethel Cumberpatch is another one with problems. She has high blood pressure and Dr Mayes puts her in the hospital wing with Sarah (funnily enough the thefts against Mrs Butcher-Brown stop around the same time).

Simon MacCorkindale has a key role as psychiatrist Dr Dady. He has a difference of opinion with Peter Mayes about how Sarah should be treated. Liz Clark is also concerned about how dependent Sarah becomes on Peter.

It’s another low key episode that still manages to pack a punch in the final moments. Mayes has no option but to send Sarah to a proper psychiatric institution and it’s a very real dilemma for him.
