Within These Walls: Public Opinion (ITV 11 Feb 1978, with Rowena Roberts)

Within These Walls Windows

In Public Opinion, another episode co-written by series mainstay Mona Bruce, Kath is serving a sentence for her part in a terrorism campaign. She is a massively talented classical pianist and has become something of a pet project of Martha Parrish’s. She is due to come up for parole soon, she is more than keen so that she can continue her piano training. So that she can practice as much as possible Charles Radley and Martha set her up with a dummy piano in her cell. More than a few of the other inmates think she is getting preferential treatment.

Kath is just one of several inmates who are due to appear before the parole board. All of them have various problems that could jeopardise their early release.

Another interesting episode with some salient points to make, although pretty much everyone at Stone Park agrees Kath should be given parole the Home Secretary is swayed by public opinion. Such was impact that the terrorists have had on the country and the fact that the bombings are still going on.

classic quote
“Once you’ve heard Russ Conway you’re spoilt for others.”
