Within These Walls: Silent Night (ITV 24 Dec 1976, with Hilary Labow)
In season final Silent Night it’s Christmas once again at Stone Park, always a time for reflection, as always the staff are doing their best to add some festive cheer to the atmosphere but not everyone appreciates it.
It’s an episode that mixes the frivolity of the Christmas party with sadness both in the prison and out of it as Georgina Weeks and Beanie Dixon almost kill themselves on a potent alcoholic mix that Georgina makes. On the home front Mrs Armitage’s husband Ted is in a very bad way after another fall. In fact although not stated as such the final two scenes do make it look like both Georgina and Ted do in fact die.
Funnily enough apart from Trixie the stripper, the acts are almost the same as the previous Chistmas concert that the show featured. In a nice touch though that the audience are fully aware of the fact that Mrs Armitage will roll out her Albert and the Lion monologue and perform most of it with her.
A change of day and time for the final episode of the season, Friday instead of Saturday and 7.30pm instead of 9.00pm and a prestigious Christmas Eve slot.
