Within These Walls: The Good Life (ITV 4 Apr 1975, with Helen Lindsay)
In The Good Life Lady Evelyn Smythe arrives on the remand wing accused of the attempted murder of her husband. She thinks because she once met Governor Faye Boswell at the opera she is deserving of special treatment. She very quickly has her eyes open on that score of course.
Evelyn is convinced she will walk scot free when her case comes to trial but she is sentenced to two years. She actually finds that she settles in with the rest of the prisoners on North Wing quite well, despite an initial run in with her young black cell mate Roberta. However the staff find her to be quite difficult. She has a major run in with Principal Officer Flaxton even though it’s really Roberta who causes the trouble. Evelyn won’t let Roberta take the blame and because PO Flaxton has a major dislike of Evelyn she doesn’t say anything either.
Helen Lindsay is excellent as Lady Evelyn, haughty in the beginning and sympathetic by the end.
