Classic Characters: Catweazle

Catweazle was an 11th century wizard who found himself being chased by a group of Norman soldiers, quickly trying to outrun them he utters a magic spell and jumps into a lake, when he pops his head back up above the water he finds himself in a duck pond slap bang in the twentieth century. He is befriended by teenaged farmers son Carrot who does his best to help Catweazle cope with his new surroundings and find the vital piece of magic that will help him return to his own time. To Catweazle every aspect of our modern life is amazing, electricity is electrickery and a light globe is the sun in a bottle… “shine tiny sun”.

Later Catweazle, following a short trip home, once again finds himself in the twentieth century – this time though he found himself in a stately home and sort of befriended by young Cedric whose parents owned the place. Catweazle also embarked on a quest to discover the thirteenth sign of the zodiac which he was convinced would allow him to return to his own time once and for all.
