Glow Up Series 5 Interviews: Val Garland

And we’re back! How does it feel to be returning for Series 5?

Can you believe we are now on series 5? It feels amazing to be back at the Glow Up studio and meeting the next future generation of MUA’s, I think this is the best series yet!

We also have a brand new host, Leomie Anderson. What was it like to work with Leomie?

I absolutely love Leomie! I’ve worked with Leomie many many times as a model, and now to be working alongside her is such a pleasure, love her energy. She is an activist, a TEDx speaker, also included in the Forbes ’30 Under 30’ list – basically she is MAJOR!

What do you enjoy most about being a judge?

I am extremely honest and I’ve always said I’m fair but firm, you don’t learn if you don’t make mistakes, so I do enjoy mentoring the MUA’s and seeing their journeys unfold as accomplished artists.

Without giving away any major spoilers, were there any standout moments from the challenges or MUAs that you can recall?

My lips are sealed! But there’s one particular moment where I’m like OMG! Shut the front door! Where is this going to go? There are amazing challenges and some seriously exciting guest judges on this series.

Do you have any advice for any aspiring MUAs who may be watching and want to get into the industry?

Just do it! Get yourself out there. Keep practising on anyone and everyone. Believe you can, manifest your magnificence.

What can viewers expect when they tune in?

MAKE-UP, ART, DRAMA, INNOVATION AND SPECIAL EFFECTS! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, you definitely don’t want to miss this series!

Glow Up Series 5 Premieres on Tuesday 2 May at 6am on BBC iPlayer and 8pm on BBC Three.
