Life And Death In The Warehouse | Interview with Craig Parkinson (Danny Howells)
Can you tell us a bit more about the character you’re playing?
Danny, who is the manager of the warehouse, is, pretty much the passive aggressive (and sometimes just plain aggressive) boss you don’t want. On the surface you’d think he’s there to help and he’s kind and open but if you cross the line then he’s going to pounce. He’s watched far too many American documentaries and listened to far too many podcasts about business. He’s pretty much a cult leader.
How familiar were you with working conditions in warehouses and distribution centres before making this film?
Prior to being sent Helen’s script I knew pretty much the bare basics that most people know. It was only digging deep into research and talking with Joe that I began to discover the actual horrors that come with working in a warehouse such as this.
Why is this an important story to tell?
As I did, the majority of people’s knowledge of the strict conditions that some people work in is limited. Not only will this broaden their understanding, but the audience will be taken on a journey that’s as shocking as it is dramatic.
Why should people watch Life and Death in the Warehouse?
The audience may be familiar with Joe Bullman and Aysha Rafaele’s previous work which includes Killed by My Debt. Blood, sweat and tears go into telling stories such as these, so to be reunited with them on this brilliant script, with these wonderful actors, was a complete no brainer. Joe and Aysha are two of my favourite people to work with. To say they really care about the work they do doesn’t really do them justice. They also, both, have a great sense of humour which is vital when telling the stories they do.
