Interviews
Mood | Interview with Jorden Myrie (Kobi)

Can you tell us about Mood and the role your character, Kobi, plays in the series?
Mood is about Sasha who wants to be a singer, but life’s not really going in that direction. So, she ends up moving out of her family home and she meets a girl who is social media famous and is very much a part of the lifestyle Sasha is after. The series follows Sasha almost living this double life and having to decide which one feels the most at home for her and which road she wants to go down – social media or the things that she grew up with. I play Kobi, who is the younger brother of Sasha’s childhood friend, Abi. Kobi and Sasha have kind of grown up with each other, and they have a relationship that goes way back. I’m really looking forward to the audience seeing the progression of Kobi and Sasha’s relationship, where it starts off at and where it ends up. There are moments in episode six that I think people are going to really enjoy.
What initially attracted you to this role?
What attracted me to Kobi as a character was just his genuineness and how warm he is as a person, and how helpful he is. He really cares about the people that he knows, and he just means well and wants to help people. And I really, really liked that. I also really love the fact that he’s so into music, he’s a music producer and I grew up loving music, so I found that really relatable and I enjoyed that.
If you could step into the shoes of someone in the music industry, who would it be and why?
I’ve got two, actually. I’d choose Kanye West or Frank Ocean, and the reason is because I think they both have such control over their careers and the music that they put out, and they do it on their own terms. And I think for anyone artistic, that’s something that they’d really love to have, control over what they do.
What’s it been like to work with the other cast members, and do you have a favourite memory from filming?
Working with the other cast members has been amazing. Everyone is so warm and welcoming, it was just a really good vibe on set. Everyone is here to do the job, but also to have fun doing it. Working with Chantelle and Nicôle has been great, I’ve really had a lot of fun working with those guys.
One of the moments that I have loved from filming is the barbecue scene. It was great, we had a lot of people there, the sun was out, it was hot, there was food, and so it just felt like a real barbecue, the atmosphere felt real. The vibe was really good on set, and I enjoyed that day a lot.
Why do you think this is an important story to tell?
I think Mood is a really important story to tell because it talks about things that are going on right now in, in our world. Social media’s going crazy, it’s blowing up, and Mood addresses that, whilst also keeping it very grounded and real, and with characters that everyone can relate to, working class characters that we don’t always see.Can you sum the series up in three words?
The words I would use to sum up Mood are fun, because the writing is really fun and I think the story and the characters are something that everyone can really enjoy. Bold, because the writing really deals with things that aren’t always seen on British television and it’s going to kind of push some boundaries. And lastly, exciting, because the story is just exciting, it’s a journey and I think everyone will really want to go on that journey and see everything that pops up.
