The Cockfields | Interview with Gregor Fisher (Ray Cockfield)

Had you worked with Sue Johnston before?

No, I had never met Sue before we did this series together. She is absolutely delightful, and was a delight to work with from beginning to end. She’s a joy. Sue is just in a different class. She made me laugh a lot.

How would you describe Ray’s relationship with his son, David?

RELATED:   Barbara Flynn on Beyond Paradise Season 3: "It Touches on Life's Everyday Challenges"

Loving but tense!

Do you think Ray is a man who struggles to express his emotions?

I think there are people of a certain age who were brought up in a certain era, and were told from a very early age, because of their gender, that they should behave in a specific way. And Ray is a man that comes from that particular era. He’s an old -fashioned man.

How would you describe The Cockfields ?

I think it’s a slice of real life. I don’t think it’s so much a comedy series as it is a slice of real life, and that’s why I like the writing. There are some very funny things in it, but it’s not a series full of gags. That was the attraction was for me when I read the scripts. I think it’s very well observed, and I cared. I cared about the people.
