The Drop | Sophie from Leeds
Sophie, 27
Leeds
The self-taught and sassy designer – taking the festival fashion scene by storm.
Trendy, competitive and a real go getter, Sophie is already a force to be reckoned within the fashion world with her bold, unisex designs with her brand GoGuyClothing.
Sophie’s collection is all about building people’s body confidence and helping them to feel fierce – in fact, she’s even attracted a fan base amongst Drag Queens.
What made you want to be on The Drop?
I was very unsure about whether I wanted to do it at first but a lot of my friends were like, ‘No, you need to give it a go! It’ll be fine.’ The main reason was to just step out of my comfort zone and try new things because the business is already ongoing, so it was great to take the business through step by step and really break down barriers again. It allowed me to look back and then really start fresh which was great. For me as a person, I’m quite shy and reserved, so I also feel like it was a big confidence booster.
What are your fashion inspirations?
When I’m designing a collection, I always think of a theme and then taking that theme and making into a collection. A lot of it comes from the 90s like rave culture but then looking at streetwear and mashing it together.
How would you describe your experience of the competition in three words?
Challenging, emotional and inspiring.
What would you say to aspiring creatives who may be watching the show?
Hopefully, they see it’s not just about designing clothes. It’s about creating a brand and having a company. It’s a whole experience and hopefully by watching the Drop, week by week, they can learn different things about social media, creating hype around a product and how to do a business meeting. I feel like hopefully that should provide some inspiration and maybe they learn us something from us all. I know it’s really cliché but you only live once and you don’t want to regret not trying a dream.
