In this legendary tearjerker that served as the female touchstone in “Sleepless in Seattle,” the world’s most eligible bachelor (Grant) is set to marry an heiress. But unfortunately for his bride-to-be, while he’s traveling alone on a luxury liner, he meets Kerr and realizes he’s engaged to the wrong woman. McCarey and Grant in a sentimental mood.
An Affair to Remember was a remake of Love Affair (1939), which starred Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne. It was in turn remade in 1994, also as Love Affair, with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening playing the star-crossed couple.
